4.3 Visa
If you are a citizen of certain
countries, you must have a visa to
enter Greenland. A list of visa-free
countries
are
published
at
www.nyidanmark.dk.
Foreign
nationals who are citizens of a
country with a visa requirement
must also obtain a visa to travel
through Schengen (either Iceland
or Denmark) to Greenland.
4.4 Permission from the local
municipality
Employment of non-Greenlandic
labour for job positions to be filled
by unskilled or skilled labour (at
apprenticeship level, but not above
this educational level), is subject to
the
requirements
of
the
Greenlandic Act on intake of
foreign labour. The purpose of the
Act is to ensure that Greenlandic
labour has a first right to jobs in
Greenland, which means that also
Nordic citizens are subject to the
con-ditions of this Act.
Approvals are granted, if the
employer has not been able to find
suitable Greenlandic labor for the
job in question.
4.5 The Large-scale Projects Act
The Large-scale Projects’ Act aims
to promote investments in and
performance
of
large-scale
projects of particular importance to
Green-land’s
economic
development, whilst taking into
account the interests of the
Greenlandic population, including
to prevent and restrict unintended
negative impacts in
terms of macroeconomics and the
competitiveness of the business
community.
The
Act
provides
for
the
Government of Greenland to grant a
project company a permit so that the
tenders for construction contracts
and the award of construction
contracts (and not other activities)
may take place on certain terms and
conditions.
The employer is responsible for
obtaining the ap-approval from the
local municipality.
